What is Tor Browser ?

Tor browser is a free and open-source web browser which is mostly used for anonymous communication. And Tor Browser anonymizes your web traffic using the tor network which makes it easier to protect your identity online.
  • When somebody use Tor browser it is more difficult to trace the internet activity of that user.
  • TOR Stand for The Onion Router.
  • Tor's intended use is to protect the personal privacy of its users, as well as their freedom and ability to conduct confidential communication by keeping their Internet activities unmonitored.

Interesting Facts about Tor Browser

  • It was developed in the mid 1990s by US Naval research Laboratory employees.
  • C and Python programming language are used in Tor Browser.
  • The Onion Routing Project(Which later simply became "Tor") was launched on 20 September 2002.
  • The Core Principle of Tor is Onion routing.

What is Onion Routing ?

Onion Routing:-It is a technique for anonymous communications over a computer network. In an Onion network, messages are encapsulated in layers of encryption, analogous to layers of an onion. And the encrypted data is transmitted through a series of network nodes called onion routers.

How Tor Browser Works ?

  • Tor routes traffic through multiple randomly-chosen relay servers before accessing the destination website.
  • There are over 7000 of these servers, which mostly belong to volunteers.
  • The request is encrypted multiple times, so the relay servers only know the previous relay and the next relay but not the request contents.
  • The network request finally exits the Tor network at an exit node.
  • From the website's perspective, you are browsing directly from the exit node.
Tor hidden services are accessed in a slightly different way from standard websites. They use .onion domain names and are inaccessible from the regular web.

Every Web browser uses a certain search engine likewise Tor browser uses DuckDuckGo by default. If you don't like DuckDuckGo then instead of DuckDuckGo you can use google, yahoo and remaining other search engine.

Why DuckDuckGo is prefer over other search engines ?

DuckDuckGo does not store IP addresses or user information. But other search engines like Google, Yahoo they stores your IP address, browsing history and user information.

What is Dark web ?

The Dark web is a part of the internet that isn't indexed by search engines. And it is a subset of the deep web that is intentionally hidden, it requires a specific browser to access Ex:- TOR Browser. Mostly Dark web is used to carry out illegal activities online, such as selling weapons or drugs, stolen credit card details, forged documents, unlicensed pharmaceuticals etc.
